Getting Registered Options

For incoming students seeking accommodations for placement exams, either option below will be able to support placement exam accommodations.

How to Register

Students with a documented disability looking to register for reasonable accommodations and services will have two different options for registering with us. Students may choose the Traditional Option or the Fast Track Option. Please see below for an explanation of each option.

The Traditional Option

The Traditional option includes an intake meeting with a coordinator. Your coordinator will be your direct point of contact with our office. This meeting can be done in person, by Zoom, or by phone.

An intake provides an interactive connection with ODS. The coordinator will gain an understanding of the student’s experience, explore the best accommodation options that are possible, discuss available resources, and inform the student about next steps.

The Traditional Option is Best if You:

  • Are unsure about which accommodations you’ll need.

  • Require accommodations not listed in the Fast Track option.

  • Do not currently have documentation.

  • Would like to discuss accessibility needs with a coordinator.

The Traditional Option Steps:

  1. Fill out the Registration Form. Upon completing this form, you will receive a confirmation email of your submission.

  2. On or before your intake meeting, please submit the appropriate documentation that meets ODS guidelines for your disability by any of the following methods:

Upon completion of your intake, ODS will then review your documentation. Students will receive a response in a timely manner with one of the following application statuses:

  • Reasonable Accommodations Approved: when a student’s request for reasonable accommodations has been approved, the student will be notified to make a follow-up meeting with their assigned disability coordinator at their campus to finalize the process for receiving their reasonable accommodations. This follow-up meeting can be done in person, over the phone, or via Zoom, whatever is easiest for the student. During this meeting, there will be a review of how to implement the approved accommodations and assist the student in completing the Letter of Accommodations form.

  • More Information Needed: when a student’s request for reasonable accommodations cannot be approved due to the fact that additional information is needed to substantiate the need for reasonable accommodations, the student will be notified that they will need to schedule a follow-up meeting with their assigned disability coordinator at their campus.

  • Application Not Approved: when a student’s request for reasonable accommodations is not approved, the coordinator will contact the student to explain the rationale for the denial and discuss next steps, if applicable.

Please note that depending on your schedule, and when documentation is received, this process can sometimes take up to 30 days.

The Fast Track Option

This option is best if you want to explore only the specific accommodations listed below at this time and you have documentation. If you do not have documentation, please follow the traditional option. The Fast Track option does not include an initial intake meeting with a coordinator. All initial communication primarily occurs via email.

Fast Track can be considered for these accommodations:

  • Time-and-half or double time for exams

  • Reduced Distraction Environment Testing Location

  • Text-to-speech technology for course material and/or exams

  • Note-taking Technology

  • Accessible furniture

The Fast Track Option is Best if You:

  • Know which accommodations you need.

  • Find the accommodations you need are on the Fast Track list.

  • Have documentation.

  • Do not need to have an initial conversation with a coordinator about your accommodation needs.

The Fast Track Option Steps:

  1. Fill out the Registration Form

  2. Please submit the appropriate documentation that meets ODS guidelines for your disability.

  3. Your assigned coordinator will send you a link to a brief survey. Once the survey is complete, the staff will review your request and documentation.

  4. If the accommodations are approved, your coordinator will email an accommodation letter with instructions on how to implement your accommodations.  If you have any questions about the next steps in the process, your coordinator will be happy to meet with you to review your accommodations.
