Scholarships

Listed below are scholarships currently available through our office. Unless otherwise noted, these scholarships are for students attending Rutgers-New Brunswick. Applications for scholarships for the 2023-2024 aid year are closed. Check back in the Fall for opportunities to apply.


Shive Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

The Shive Scholarship for Students with Disabilities was established in 2017 to assist students with disabilities in the pursuit of their academic goals at Rutgers University. The award for 2023-2024 is $1,000.00.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in any college on the New Brunswick campus
  • Demonstrated academic merit
  • Preference given to students with a disability documented with the Office of Disability Services

Friends’ Health Connection Endowed Scholarship

Friends’ Health Connection was founded in 1988 by Roxanne Black-Weisheit. It was launched nationally from Roxanne’s dorm room in Mettler Hall of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. The organization's mission was to connect individuals with the same health challenges for friendship and mutual support. The organization later added an educational component and offered an ongoing series of workshops and lectures featuring some of the world’s top doctors, researchers, experts, patient survivors, and celebrities.

Many people supported Roxanne and her vision. This scholarship is intended to provide similar support to a student enrolled in, or starting at, Rutgers University to support the personal long-term visions of your life through the power of education. Preference is given to students with a demonstrated interest and/ or participation in community service to enrich the lives of others. The award for 2023-2024 is approximately $2,000.

Required Qualifications

  • full time or part time undergraduate student
  • disability documented with the Office of Disability Services
  • demonstrated academic merit

Jane E. Duffy Stach Scholarship Fund

The Jane E. Duffy Stach Scholarship Fund was established in 1990 in loving memory by her husband, Otto R. Stach to assist graduate and undergraduate students who have been identified as having a learning disability. Total amount awarded will depend on number of qualified applicants.

Required Qualifications

  • undergraduate or graduate student who has been diagnosed with a learning disability (preference to students with dyslexia)
  • good academic standing
  • preferred that the student is a full time School of Engineering student

Class of 1945 John L. Dempsey Memorial Scholarship

This endowed merit scholarship was renewed in 1995 by the members of the Class of 1945 on the occasion of the Class’s 50th Reunion, and is preferably given to a student with a physical disability as a tribute to Jack Dempsey’s courage, fortitude and determination. Total amount awarded will depend on number of qualified applicants.

Required Qualifications

  • be admitted as an undergraduate freshman to any college on the New Brunswick campus
  • be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States
  • be a high achiever in academics and other activities

David Rose Endowed Scholarship

The David Rose Endowed Scholarship was established in 2014 by a gift from the estate of David Rose and the David Rose 2012 Living Trust to support undergraduate students pursuing their educational goals at Rutgers University. The award for 2023-2024 is approximately $2,000.

Required Qualifications

  • full-time undergraduate student in any college on the New Brunswick campus
  • preference given to students with a physical disability
