To help coordinate our students' accommodations, the Office of Disability Services in New Brunswick employs various auxiliary staff such as office assistants, note-takers, and proctors. Listed below are currently available positions.
Proctors
Proctors are graduate students hired, as needed, by our office to oversee the implementation of exam arrangements. Proctors may be asked to oversee one-on-one, group, or online exams. Proctors must maintain the testing environment, communicate with the exam office, and work well with other proctors. They should be prepared to travel within several campuses and work with students who have both physical and mental disabilities with professionalism and discretion.
Proctors may not have regularly scheduled shifts, and the hours needed each week will vary. Flexible availability is helpful.
To qualify to become a proctor, you must:
- Be a currently enrolled student at Rutgers University
- Be a graduate student
- Be eligible to work in the United States

CLASS and LAB ASSISTANTS
ODS hires class/lab assistants to support students with disabilities. The assistant will be assigned to a particular class to support visual and/or physical dexterity tasks. Often, the assistant will also be assigned to scribe and read exams for the course. The assistant does not register for the assigned class. Instead, they attend class and lab to work with the student. Assistants do not tutor or teach; the student maintains all academic responsibility, and the assistant works in tandem, following the student's lead.

Note-TakerS
Note-takers are undergraduate or graduate students hired by our office to supplement notes taken by a student with a disability in their class. The note-taker generally must have at least a 3.0 G.P.A. and be in good academic standing with the university. Note-takers are compensated $210.00 for a full semester of notes. Those interested in being hired as a note-taker should fill out the note-taker application form.
OFFICE ASSISTANTS
Office Assistants are graduate students who support our exam unit. Currently, there are no open positions.
